20 years ago, at a young age, I launched a recruitment to recruitment business - People Prospect Solutions. I had no idea what I was doing and pretty much made it up as I went along. I worked on my own in an office for 18 months with no business plan, just a dream and a passion for helping recruiters to enhance their careers.
Fast forward nearly 10 years and the company was at it's height of success. We'd had the best billing year, I had a team of 4 and I was just about to become a mother for the first time. Life was good. Then it crashed, pretty much overnight in 2008.
The start of 2010 was all about rebuilding the business out of the ashes. For 12 months the Rec to Rec market had been stale with redundancies as opposed to growth. Fortunately for me at that time, I found a business partner. Rebecca and I had worked together previously as candidate /client and we had always held a mutual respect for each other. She joined the business and very quickly became a business partner and share holder. Together we have built an amazing R2R business as our clients and candidates would confirm (just take a look at some of the many Linkedin recommendations).
Throughout the last few years, as part of our R2R business, we have worked with many start-ups where we have taken a business from a one/two person ownership to a highly successful team of recruiters. We've helped to define processes, culture and advised on how to attract individuals in to the start-up environment. It's been a real pleasure seeing these businesses grow.
Before Covid-19 struck, we had already been recruiting for clients outside of the R2R industry but under the PPS banner. We were approached around 3 months ago to recruit for a very interesting Agri-tech company that had completed a second round of funding and was looking to scale-up. Using our headhunting skills, we specifically targeted software developers, hardware engineers, scientists /researchers, mechanical design engineers. It really opened up our eyes to the world outside of pure Rec to Rec and certainly lit a fire in me. I felt that same passion and drive that I had 20 years ago.
To be true to the People Prospect Solutions brand, which has built an enviable reputation in the R2R market, Rebecca and I felt it only right to separate the two and to create something new.
Some people may think it's crazy to launch a new brand right now, in the midst of uncertainty and Covid-19 whilst at home in isolation and home schooling two children! Phew! However, if you can't make it work now, when will you ever make it work!
I'm not turning my back on R2R, far from it. I have some amazing clients that I have worked with for so many years who will continue to need our support after all of this is over. And I now have an awesome business partner who has spent the last 10 years perfecting the art of R2R and can lead the PPS business. What it does mean however, is that I can now share this same support and service to those in a start-up and scale-up scenario in the tech world.
